PROJECT FOCUS

Overview
The Gardens of Remembrance first established in 1952 serves as a tribute to local residents who lost their lives during World War II. The gardens were set to undergo significant enhancements to preserve them for the future and to further rejuvenate the towns riverside areas. The works were planned to balance flood management with the creation of accessible, environmentally sustainable public spaces.

OUR ROLE

Biba’s Landscapes were appointed following the success of our works on the adjacent Washlands Enhancements Project. The works commenced with vegetation clearance and soft landscape preparation, along with removal of the existing hard landscaped areas, retaining as much of the material for re-use as possible and careful removal of the existing memorial features which were incorporated back into the revitalised scheme. New footpaths and seating areas were created using a combination of new and retained paving and asphalt surfacing. Ornamental planting along with extensive grass and wildflower seeding added the finishing touches to the vast open spaces. The works were planned carefully so as to maintain public access wherever possible throughout the works.
