Contemporary Garden Transformation – Project Completion
Brief
The client wanted to replace an underutilised garden with a contemporary outdoor living area that would provide:
- A large entertaining space
- Safe and practical access between levels
- Low-maintenance materials
- Defined planting areas
- A premium finish that enhanced the property’s outlook
The design needed to integrate seamlessly with the natural landscape while creating distinct spaces for relaxation and outdoor entertaining.
Challenges
The site presented several challenges due to its varying levels and the need to create a practical flow throughout the garden. Careful planning was required to ensure:

- Effective drainage throughout the paved areas
- Smooth transitions between terraces

Work Completed
Site Preparation
The existing area was excavated and prepared to establish the new garden levels. Extensive groundwork was undertaken to create solid foundations for all hard landscaping elements.
Retaining Walls & Raised Beds
We constructed a series of retaining walls and raised planting beds to manage the changes in level throughout the garden. These features not only provide structural support but also create attractive planting zones that soften the hard landscaping.
Bespoke Steps
A set of custom-built steps was installed to provide safe and seamless access between the different garden terraces. The stepped design helps connect each level while maintaining the clean, contemporary appearance of the overall scheme.
Decking Area & Integrated Steps
A large raised composite decking area was constructed to create a dedicated seating and viewing space within the garden. Designed to complement the surrounding porcelain paving, the decking introduces warmth, texture, and contrast to the overall scheme.
To ensure smooth movement between the different garden levels, we incorporated bespoke integrated decking steps within the structure. These steps provide safe and practical access while maintaining the clean, contemporary lines of the design. Built as part of the overall decking framework, they create a seamless transition between the terrace and raised garden areas.
The finished decking area not only adds valuable usable space but also acts as a focal point within the garden, offering an ideal spot to relax and enjoy the surrounding countryside views.
Porcelain Paving & Feature Steps
A major element of this garden transformation was the installation of premium large-format porcelain paving, creating a spacious and contemporary outdoor living area that serves as the focal point of the garden.
Due to the garden’s varying levels, a series of bespoke porcelain-clad steps were incorporated into the design, providing seamless access between the different terraces and outdoor areas. These steps were carefully constructed and finished to match the surrounding paving, creating a cohesive flow throughout the garden while enhancing both functionality and visual appeal.
